PROLON -- THE PRODUCT THAT SHOULDN'T WORK
(But it does, surprisingly well!)
--------------------------------------------------
Whenever you see an advertisement for anything that is sold as "safe", "environmentally friendly", "non-toxic", "hypo-allergenic", and has a very long list of "contains no………….." do you find yourself asking:
"Yes, but does it clean anything?"
No doubt you do. Lee and I often react the same way. For decades we've been given samples of such products for evaluation, and each time we've been disappointed in the cleaning results.
---------------------------------------------------------
-------
ENTER PROLON. PROLON IS A "SOAP FREE/DETERGENT FREE CLEANER".
---------------------------------------------------------
-------
Technically, this means that the product contains no surfactants, which are generally seen as the primary building block of all cleaners. Surfactants, which do so many positive things, do create a few problems:
------------------------------------
1. SKIN/RESPIRATORY IRRITATION.
------------------------------------
Next to perfume oils (also absent from Prolon), dried surfactant residue tends to be one of the most common causes of allergic response by humans and pets.
-------------------
2. FOAMING.
-------------------
All carpet shampoo products, and many traffic area cleaners, as well as a few liquid carpet cleaning products create foam in vacuum hoses and recovery tanks.
-------------------
3. RESIDUES.
-------------------
Most resoiling after cleaning comes from surfactant residue in carpeting. Carpets cleaned and rinsed with Prolon stay clean longer, and feel very soft afterward!
Of course, these benefits must weigh always against one very very important criteria:
----------------------------------------
"DOES IT GET THE CARPET CLEAN?"
----------------------------------------
This was the shocking part: YES!
I initially introduced this product to select clients who were very committed to the allergy/residue issues in cleaning. I (somewhat timidly I must confess) asked them to try the product out on "jobs that weren't too dirty". In the meantime, I did some cleaning of my own for friends and relatives, as well as some commercial settings that I was familiar with. "Knowing" that the product "probably wouldn't work too well", I had a reserve sprayer filled with a super powerful solvent/surfactant blend traffic lane cleaner in reserve on each job.
---------------------------
I NEVER HAD TO USE IT!
---------------------------
I was stunned. This product could not possibly have been working as well as it did, but it did! There were a few hardened sugary spots and some oil that needed separate spotting, but they might have with either product. I still was somewhat convinced my tests were the exceptions. Perhaps it was my super powerful BlueLine Thermal Wave that made the difference?
---------------------------------------------------------
--
THEN THE REPORTS CAME IN FROM OUR TRUSTED CLIENTS:
---------------------------------------------------------
--
Prolon was working with portable and truck mount systems, on carpets that were moderately to heavily soiled. Yes, some "trashed apartments" needed a little boosting with Citrus Solv or Boost All; but those products are often used as boosters for traffic lane cleaners that have detergents in them as well.
------------------
BOTTOM LINE:
------------------
Prolon has been a "hit" with everyone that has tried it. Its being used as both a prespray and rinsing agent, and its unique water softening and non solvent degreasing capabilities are cleaning all but the most abused carpets like new, and leaving them soft, odor free, and nearly residue free.
If you've been looking for a product that is customer friendly, and cleans great, look no further!
