GreenGlides – Late Model Prochem Quad Jet Glide SKU-PCQJ-A (alternate fit)

$178.00

Description

Towards the end of the Prochem Quad Jet’s production PMF had the head casted overseas which produced some variations that make the original GreenGlide not fit properly.

To the best of our knowledge there are 2500 of these “Alternate” wands in existence, which we figure is about 10 of the total of Quad Jets on planet earth.

We can send out 1/2 inch” section of each size Glide to help you determine what wand you have if you purchase a Glide first. (please return)

If your GreenGlide fits like the Glide in the photo below with the large gap under the wand lips, you have the older model wand

DO NOT FORCE FIT OR INSTALL THIS GLIDE WITHOUT WARMING IT UP IN BOILING WATER OR WITH A HEAT GUN.

  • A warm glide installs easier than a cold glide and is less damaging to the glide. We suggest

boiling the glide in a large pot of water for 10-20 minutes. Teflon has a melting point of over 500º,

so there is no need to be concerned that you will melt the glide.

  • Use an oven mitt during installation to avoid burns. After heating the glide, install it beginning at

one end of the wand lips. With the glide in proper relation front to back, push one end of the glide

onto the wand lips at a steep angle. Slowly squeeze the rest of the glide onto the wand until it snaps

firmly into place. Once installed, check for fit. The glide should not rock or wiggle on the wand.

Prochem Titanium and Quad Jet wands will need an hour or so for the Glide to shrink back to its

original shape after installing, due to the big stretch needed to get the Glide off their large lips.

  • On older wands with worn or bent lips, or wands that have been repaired or modified at the lips,

the glide may leak too much. After the glide is installed, run a THIN bead of GOOP® brand

adhesive/sealer along the front and back edges of the glide (do each side separately) where the

glide meets the wand, along the top edge. Leave the ends open for proper vacuum relief. Apply

sealant in TWO phases, to prevent dripping. Allow the first bead of sealant to cure for 1-2 hours.

Flip the wand over and apply the second bead. Allow sealant to cure for 12-24 hours before use.

  • The glide can be removed occasionally for cleaning and servicing the wand by GENTLY prying

the glide away from the wand lips with two stiff putty knives or wide flat screwdrivers applied

front and back at one end of the wand. Use care not to damage the Teflon material. Ease the glide

off, do not force it. Heating the wand and glide before removal is highly recommended, and makes

the process easier and less damaging to the glide.

  • Frequently taking the glide on and off the wand will result in premature wear to the sealing

surfaces.

  • The spray jet(s) on your wand may or may not be adjustable. IF you can adjust the jet(s) to just

skim the Teflon very low on the glide at the carpet/glide interface, it will optimize drying.

Slot Glides– The best choice for dirtier carpet that has debris in or on it and for cleaners who prefer some resistance or grab at the carpet to wand interface. Also, our Slots have recessed bridges so there are no lines left in the carpet when the glide is new. As the face of the Glide wears down the bridges can be recessed again with a knife, razor or Dremel tool.  FYI, 80% of our Glide sales are Slots.

Hole Glides- The easiest to push and the best choice for cleaners with back pain, elbow, wrist, and shoulder issues and for those wanting the quickest dry times. Holes are also great for cleaning area rugs on location as the rug won’t lift up as you clean the edges and corners.  Optimum for wool carpet and rugs. Dry soil removal prior to wet extraction is a must in most cases. The best choice for portable extractors too!

Hybrid Glides- Fits in between the two above, easier (some say much easier) to push than a Slot but dries slower than a Hole. Wands with large vacuum chambers such as Evolutions, SharpShooters, AW29s and the PMF Mach 12 &15 perform noticeably better with a Hybrid. Some debris can be extracted through the slot portion of the vacuum pattern, unlike our Hole pattern, but dry extraction is still recommended. This style leaves lines on some pile types and may need to be groomed after cleaning.
